Shailesh Puntambekar
Dr Shailesh Puntambekar is a cancer surgeon specialised in laparoscopic cancer surgery. He is heading “Galaxy Care Laparoscopy Institute’, centre for advanced laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery in Pune. Considered as an expert in Laparoscopic Pelvic surgery and Gynecological cancer surgery in the world, he has developed laparoscopic radical hysterectomy for cancer cervix known world over as the “Pune Technique”. Since last few years his lectures on Pelvic Anatomy have been widely acknowledged for the newer concepts in Pelvic Anatomy.
He is a faculty at the AAGL (American Association of Gynaecological Laparoscopy) and member of the AAGL Oncology Committee. He has won the prestigious “Golden Telescope Award” for the best video at AAGL four times( In the yrs 2005 ,2009 & 2012) and is the only Indian surgeon to do so. He has also received Kurt Semm Award for best video at AAGL 2015.
Invited as an expert on laparoscopic colorectal, gynaecological and oesophageal cancer surgery all over the world. International Scientific publications include- largest series of Laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, laparoscopic anterior exenteration, and laparoscopic total pelvic exenteration.
Has performed surgeries in live surgical workshops in India as well as in Germany, England, France, Romania, Turkey, Israel, Pakistan, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Australia, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Greece, Israel, Brazil , Russia and Czech Republic.
He is a reviewer for many scientific journals including JMIG (Journal Of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology), Elsevier Editorial System, International journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Minimal access journal (IAGES), Video journal of advanced laparoscopic surgery (Netherlands), European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR) and Indian Journal of Surgery.
He has published two video atlases on colorectal surgery and Robotic surgery. He has authored two books, ‘Atlas of gynaecological oncology’ (Jaypee, Now 2nd edition) and ‘Atlas of Oesophageal Surgery’ (Springer with co-editor Miguel Cuesta). This book has been translated into Chinese, German and Spanish.
He has contributed chapters in the Manual of Kiel school of Endoscopy (Editor-Lissote Metler) and Gynaec-laparoscopy (Editor- Resad Pasic) and Manual of Laproscopy (Editor- Nutan Jain), The book of Gynae-Laparoscopy ( editor – Dr vivek Joshi).
He has published more than 80 publications in peer reviewed high impact international and national journals.

He has transmitted live surgeries to 12 countries and Twice to AAGL (2008 and 2011) during their Annual conference.
He has performed live surgeries in more than 150 live surgical workshops ranging from laparoscopic Whipples, Oesophagectomies, Radical hysterectomies and colorectal surgeries including AIIMS, SGPGI Lucknow, PGI Chandigarh, PGIMS Rohtak and CMC Vellore.
He has performed over 400 Robotic surgeries.
Invited to conduct PG courses for AAGL, ESGE (European Society of Gynaecologic Endoscopy), APAGE (Asia-Pacific Association for Gynecologic Endoscopy) , Strasbourg University (IRCAD), France and Harward University, Boston.
