A Neuromodulation Approach to Chronic Pelvic Pain (5789)

Frank Buchanan

Chronic pelvic pain in women is a common condition with prevalence rates worldwide being quoted as between 6-27% depending on the definition of chronic pelvic pain. Given the complexity of the condition, a biopsychosocial model is usually employed for the management of chronic pelvic pain. This has traditionally incorporated the use of a combination of adjunctive pain medications, pelvic floor physiotherapy and psychological management strategies where appropriate. Modern advances in technology and improvements in our understanding of modulating nervous system activity (neuromodulation) has allowed a wide range of interventional techniques to be employed in the management of this complex condition.
